In CyberHive, you take on the role of the commander of the Melistar, a starship inhabited by a swarm of intelligent anthropomorphic bees. Your mission is to ensure the ship's combat readiness to fend off enemy attacks, maintain the course, and gather resources to keep both the Queen and the soldier bees well-fed. Additionally, you must monitor the crew, whose members often find or create trouble. The ship journeys through a universe filled with strange insectoid races, where alliances and conflicts are shaped by your choices.

The galaxy is home to numerous factions, each with its own agenda. The Merchant Guild clashes with the League of Smugglers, intelligent Ants compete with Locusts for space colonies, and the sinister cult of Blood Suckers spreads its influence. You will have to fight and trade, and every decision can alter the course of the story. As you navigate these challenges, you may also uncover the mysteries of the universe and perhaps even avert a looming catastrophe.

Survival is a key aspect of the game. Space cycles alternate, resources dwindle, and the crew grows, but with luck and careful planning, you can endure. Upgrade your ship and set the right course to stay alive as long as possible, or even set a record. For those who enjoy branching plots and exploration, the game offers a deep storyline. Collect ancient artifacts and pieces of knowledge on distant planets to learn about the past and the misfortune that threatens the world.

Throughout your journey, you will encounter many events on the ship, from internal intrigues and passenger issues to contraband setups or encounters with the ghost of a legendary pirate starship.
