Moth Lake: A Horror Story

Moth Lake is a small town with a peaceful facade that hides a terrible secret. Only a group of teenagers with difficult lives will uncover what has been hidden for generations. Mysterious events intensify from the eve of a solar eclipse, and the young friends embark on a journey into the shadow and into their own souls.

The game is a story-driven experience with over 20,000 words of text and more than 300 scenarios. The script weaves a long journey through mystery, horror, and the characters' hearts. It contains dark topics and very sad moments, but also plenty of nonsensical jokes and weird conversations, making it hard to classify as purely horror. The main characters move around a 2.5D world, interacting with many hotspots and NPCs. They can pull objects and perform specific actions to solve very different puzzles.

The artwork is modern pixel art with a big color palette and many frame-to-frame animations, including talking, walking, running, crouching, crawling, pushing, climbing, sneaking, punching, throwing, and much more. Scenarios feature modern lighting and shading, with particle effects and constant parallax to simulate a 3D environment. There are 6 main characters and over 50 NPCs, each with their own look and personality. You can control 7 characters through the main story and more in additional chapters. They all move their eyes, change facial expressions, and have peculiar behaviors.

As the story proceeds, the player must make choices that affect the characters' moods and sometimes even the plot. Characters with a good mood are always smiling, perform funny idle animations, and help each other. Characters with a bad mood show an angry face, insult their friends, and are generally edgy and selfish. The general mood can even unlock hidden scenes. For most of the time, the player controls a character surrounded by friends. Each has a skill to use at the right moment, and sometimes their personality is important to solve a puzzle. Some puzzles can be solved by a single character, while others require the whole squad's cooperation. The game aims to give psychological horror vibes, so keep in mind it's not for everyone. Some scenes are disturbing, anxiety-inducing, or extremely sad. Characters constantly face their difficult past and scary present. They need to hide, make terrible decisions, and sometimes fight for their lives. But after all, your choices can lead you to the best possible ending, and if you fail, you can always try again.
