Roots of Tomorrow is a turn-based strategy and management game designed to teach players about agroecology and sustainable agriculture. You take on the role of one of four characters and begin your farming career in France, with the goal of achieving an agroecological transition on your farm within ten years. Your farm is located in one of several French regions, each offering a unique experience. In Brittany, you can breed pigs and grow various crops. In Grand Est, you can raise cattle and cultivate multiple crops. In Provence, you can breed sheep and grow a variety of crops. More farms are planned for future updates, expanding the game's scope and challenges.

As the head manager, you are responsible for assigning tasks to your employees. There is plenty to do, from sowing seedlings and feeding animals to cleaning, fertilizing, and even entertaining tourists. However, you must be careful not to overwork your team, as this can negatively impact your farm's social score. Balancing productivity with employee well-being is crucial.

Research plays a key role in sustainable agriculture. You can unlock various sustainable farming techniques such as direct seeding, hedges to preserve biodiversity, energy autonomy, and precision agriculture. These practices help you improve your farm's environmental and economic performance. To achieve a truly sustainable farm, you must balance economic, environmental, and social scores. Every decision, from using synthetic fertilizer to taking on debt, affects these scores, so think carefully before making choices.
