In an alternate 1920s Europa, the Great War has ended, but the ashes of conflict still smolder, and a new phase of war is beginning. The first conflict introduced incredible engines of war known as Mechs, built by The Factory, an independent city-state that has become the object of everyone's desire. These technological monstrosities roam the snowy landscapes of Europa. As the leader of one of five factions – Saxony Empire, Crimean Khanate, Rusviet Union, Polania Republic, or Nordic Kingdom – you must guide your people to become the richest and most powerful nation in all of Europa during these dark times. To assure victory, you will need to explore and conquer new territories, enlist new recruits, and deploy your forces by building formidable and terrifying combat Mechs. Replay history in a fictional past full of mechanical engines and technology, where each choice you make will be critical. Choose your battles with care, because in Scythe, victory is achieved with and for the people!

Scythe offers a deep 4X strategy experience (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) with a strong emphasis on asymmetry and strategy. Every player starts with different resources, a different starting location, and a secret objective, ensuring that each faction plays uniquely. The game provides almost complete control over your fate, with the only elements of chance being the Encounter cards drawn when interacting with citizens of newly explored lands. Combat is also resolved through choice, with no luck involved. Engine building is a key aspect: you can improve your construction abilities, build structures that enhance your position, enlist recruits, activate mechs to deter opponents, and expand your borders to reap greater resources. This creates a feeling of energy and progression throughout the game, and the order in which players develop their economy and technologies adds to the unique feel of every session, even when playing as the same faction multiple times.

This official adaptation of the award-winning board game includes a variety of features to enhance your experience. Customize the mat to sharpen your strategy, and choose a specialty for unique games: Agriculturalist, Industrialist, Engineer, Patriot, or Mechanic. You can fight alone against an AI, face your friends in Pass and Play, or challenge opponents from all over the world in Online Mode. The game also features the stunning retro-futuristic illustrations of artistic genius Jakub Rozalski. Additionally, the Invaders from Afar expansion introduces two new factions, Albion and Togawa, who send emissaries to scout the land and plan their conquest. Play as Clan Albion or The Togawa Shogunate, use their mechs with unique abilities, and utilize two new player mats: Militant and Innovative. Now up to 7 players can join the battle for Europa!
