The Longing

In the depths below the surface, you play as a lonely Shade, the last servant of a king who once ruled an underground kingdom. The king's powers have faded, and he now sleeps for 400 days to regain his might. Your duty is to remain in the earthen palace until he awakens. As soon as you begin, the game counts down the 400 days in real time, even when you stop playing and exit the game.

It is up to you to decide how to spend your solitary existence beneath the soil. You can simply start the game and return after 400 days to see how it ends, or explore the caves and collect items to make your underground living room more comfortable. The Shade walks slowly, but there is no need to hurry. You can also read classic literature from Nietzsche to Moby Dick right in the game, or have the Shade read them to pass the time.

Alternatively, you can ignore the king's commands and venture into the outer regions of the cave, embarking on a long and dangerous journey into darkness. The game features slow exploration of a vast, hand-drawn cave, an atmospheric Dungeon Synth soundtrack, various endings, lots of well-hidden secrets, time-based puzzles, and a lonely but cute protagonist.
