Unruly Heroes

Unruly Heroes is a 2D action-adventure game inspired by China's first mythological novel, Journey to the West. The story begins when the sacred scripture that maintained balance between Heaven, Earth, and all creatures is torn apart and scattered across the land. Those who find the fragments gain immense power, but it corrupts their hearts and turns them into horrifying monsters. A master and his three disciples receive a decree from Guan Yin to reunite the fragments and restore harmony.

Players control the master and his three disciples as they battle demons, solve puzzles, collect loot, and navigate platforming challenges. The game emphasizes switching between the four characters, each with unique attacks and holy relics, to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies. The adventure combines combat, puzzle-solving, and parkour across richly designed levels.

The hand-drawn art style brings a vivid sense of realism to the mythical world. With over ten different gameplay elements, including fighting, puzzle solving, loot collecting, and platforming, the game offers varied and engaging experiences. Unruly Heroes won the 47th Annie Award for best game character animation, recognizing its exceptional visual design.
